Microsoft has streamlined this process in Windows 11 24H2, reducing downtime during unexpected restarts to about two seconds for most users. The new, simplified user interface (UI) improves readability and aligns with Windows 11’s design principles, while still providing essential technical information.
2. Quick Machine Recovery (QMR)
Devices that experience consecutive unexpected restarts may become stuck in the Windows Recovery Environment (Windows RE), often requiring significant IT intervention. Quick Machine Recovery (QMR) automates fixes via Windows RE, enabling rapid remediation and restoring productivity without complex manual steps. QMR will be generally available later this summer for all editions of Windows 11 24H2, enabled by default on Home devices and configurable by IT admins on Pro and Enterprise editions.
3. Microsoft Connected Cache: Saving Bandwidth, Boosting Efficiency
In cloud-native work environments, reliable internet bandwidth is crucial. Microsoft Connected Cache improves bandwidth efficiency by allowing locally deployed cache nodes to serve Microsoft-published content to downstream Windows devices. Connected Cache will be generally available in the coming weeks.

5. Hotpatching: Updates Without Interruptions
Hotpatching enables Windows security updates to be installed monthly without requiring a restart, minimizing workflow disruption. Available through Windows Autopatch, this feature allows organizations to maintain up-to-date security without sacrificing productivity. Devices that do not meet hotpatch prerequisites will continue to receive regular security updates.
6. Windows 365 Reserve: Instant Cloud PC Access for Business Continuity
Device disruptions—whether due to loss, theft, or malfunction—can severely impact productivity. Windows 365 Reserve provides organizations with secure, temporary access to pre-configured Cloud PCs, ensuring users can stay productive even when their primary device is unavailable.
