Indonesian UNIKOM students excel as Southeast Asia’s sole representatives at Microsoft’s Imagine Cup 2024

A team of four students from Universitas Komputer Indonesia (UNIKOM) has propelled themselves into the global spotlight. They are the only representatives from Southeast Asia at the prestigious Microsoft Imagine Cup 2024 Global Semifinals. The team, known as Agricode, has developed an agritech solution named Agrimate, which aims to revolutionize farming practices with its advanced technological approach.

Agrimate is not just an app; it’s a beacon of hope for farmers facing myriad challenges in their daily operations. Developed on the robust Microsoft Azure platform, this multiplatform application provides comprehensive solutions that address various stages of the farming process. From planting to harvesting, Agrimate aims to streamline and enhance agricultural productivity with precision and ease.

The brains behind this innovative project are Adinda Regita Afifah Cahyani, Dinar Nur Aziz, Fajar Buana Hidayat, and Reymunda Dwi Alfathur, all from UNIKOM’s Informatics Engineering Department. Their journey to the Imagine Cup semifinals is a testament to their hard work and the potential of AI to drive significant improvements in traditional sectors like agriculture.

Recognition and support

The journey of Agricode has been marked by significant achievements and recognition. Not only have they made it to the semifinals of the Imagine Cup, competing against 19 other teams from countries such as the United States, India, the United Kingdom, Canada, and China, but they have also received a merit award from the Asia Pacific ICT Alliance Awards in Hong Kong. Furthermore, their project has garnered initial funding from the Ministry of Education and Culture’s Hibah Dikti program, underscoring the potential impact of their solution.

A source of national pride

Irving Hutagalung, Country Engineering Lead at Microsoft Asia’s Office of the CTO and coach to the Agricode team, expressed his pride and hope for the project. “We sincerely hope that this incredible feat will inspire and motivate more Indonesian youth to pursue innovation and contribute to the nation. Together with technology, we can drive a positive change for Indonesia,” stated Hutagalung.

The success of the Agricode team at the Imagine Cup is a clarion call to Indonesian students and young innovators across Southeast Asia.
