Microsoft has announced the launch of new Surface Copilot+ PCs today, May 6th, 2025, expanding its portfolio of AI-powered Windows 11 devices designed to deliver high performance, long battery life, and enhanced AI experiences at more accessible price points. The new models include the 12-inch Surface Pro and the 13-inch Surface Laptop, both powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon X Plus processor with an integrated Neural Processing Unit (NPU) capable of 45 trillion operations per second, enabling advanced local AI processing.

These new Copilot+ PCs build on last year’s flagship models but come with notable improvements and cost reductions. The Surface Pro starts at $799, $200 less than its predecessor, while the Surface Laptop begins at $899, $100 cheaper than last year’s version. Though the devices have slightly smaller screens-12 inches for the Pro and 13 inches for the Laptop-they offer better battery life, with the Surface Laptop supporting up to 16 hours of web browsing, surpassing even Apple’s 2024 MacBook Air in endurance according to Microsoft.

The new Surface Copilot+ PCs are designed to unlock exclusive AI-driven features integrated deeply into Windows 11. Key functionalities include:
-
Recall (preview): An opt-in feature that lets users quickly retrace and rediscover content like apps, websites, images, or documents by describing what they are looking for in natural language.
-
Click To Do (preview): Allows users to interact with text and images on screen to perform AI-powered actions such as drafting content in Microsoft Word or sending data to Excel, enhancing productivity without leaving the current workflow.
-
AI agent in Settings: Rolling out first to Windows Insiders on Snapdragon devices, this agent understands natural language commands to find, recommend, and even change system settings on behalf of the user with permission, such as adjusting mouse pointer size or enabling voice control.
-
Photos Relight and Object Select: New AI-powered photo editing tools that bring dynamic lighting controls and automatic object isolation to enhance image editing on Copilot+ PCs.
-
Enhanced Windows Search and Microsoft Store integration: AI improvements that help users find and install apps more easily, along with personalized recommendations in the Microsoft Store tailored for Copilot+ PCs.
Microsoft emphasizes that these devices are purpose-built for the future of AI on Windows, combining local and cloud AI capabilities securely and efficiently. The new Surface Pro and Laptop models will be available for pre-order immediately and start shipping on May 20th, 2025, with business versions arriving in select markets on July 22nd.
This launch comes as Windows 10 support ends on October 14th, 2025, encouraging users and businesses to transition to Windows 11 and Copilot+ PCs for a modern, secure, and AI-enhanced computing experience.
With the introduction of the new Surface Copilot+ PCs, Microsoft is not just refreshing its hardware lineup-it’s laying the groundwork for the next era of personal computing. By making powerful AI features available on more affordable, energy-efficient devices, Microsoft is positioning itself at the forefront of the AI PC revolution.
As Windows 10 approaches end-of-support, these new Copilot+ PCs offer a compelling upgrade path for both consumers and businesses seeking security, productivity, and the latest in AI-driven innovation.
